Busan & Seoul

both Malaysian passports · food & cafés · Busan first, then Seoul

Cost per person

Fixed, bookable costs first. Flights, and both hotels, are now from your actual bookings.

Both hotels found in your email — and they change the trip
  • Real Trip.com bookings, both under En Zee's account and forwarded to you on 11 Oct
  • Busan: 4 nights, not 5. Toyoko Inn Haeundae 2, check-in 30 Dec, check-out 3 Jan. Economy double (one queen bed, not a twin), breakfast included. S$326.26 for the room
  • Seoul: 6 nights, not 5. Myeongdong Merlin, check-in 3 Jan, check-out 9 Jan. Double with N Tower view, no breakfast. S$387.25 for the room
  • Both are one room for two people, so the totals split in half: S$356.76 each. That is S$43.24 less than I had estimated
  • No Toyoko Inn Seoul Dongdaemun booking exists — Merlin is confirmed
  • The KTX to Seoul moves to 3 January, not the 4th. That costs you a Busan day and gives Seoul an extra one — the Itinerary tab is being reflowed
  • Both are free-cancellation: Busan until 23:59 on 29 Dec, Seoul until 12:00 on 31 Dec
The budget does not close — now with real numbers
  • Flights are S$584.04 per person — found on the receipt
  • Fixed costs excluding flights: S$816.98
  • Fixed plus flights: S$1,401.02
  • Add food and shopping at a normal rate: ≈S$2,170 per person
  • Against your S$1,500 ceiling — the ceiling must be flights-excluded, or it needs raising

If flights are inside the S$1,500
  • Fixed costs plus the actual airfare come to S$1,401.02 — comfortably under your ceiling
  • But that leaves only S$98.98 for eleven days of food, which will not survive
  • So the ceiling still has to be flights-excluded, or it needs raising to about S$2,170
Read this before you panic
  • S$62/day for food in Korea is comfortable, not tight
  • Market and street eating runs S$8–15 a meal
  • Sit-down Korean meals run S$12–20 a head
  • Cafés are the luxury — S$6–9 a drink, and they add up fast
  • The budget breaks on shopping, not food. Skincare and cosmetics are what blow it

Levers, biggest first

  • Flights — already booked and now known: S$584.04 from your receipt. This line is closed
  • Shopping — the only large discretionary line. Cap it or the budget has no meaning
  • Busan Pass — already excluded from the totals, so there is nothing to save. BIG5 is the S$62 tier and it still loses ₩29,400 on your list
  • Ski extras S$52 — helmet is mandatory, but gloves/goggles/pads are optional. Saves up to S$42
  • Cafés — three a day is S$25. One a day halves that
